Customer project PDQ retail / United Kingdom

15,000 Scratchers in 20 Days. 65% Less Shelf-Setup Time.

A delayed supplier had put a UK supermarket's Black Friday range at risk. We delivered the seasonal order six days ahead of plan and combined transport protection with PDQ display, cutting shelf setup time by 65%.

01 / THE BUYER’S PROBLEM

The retail date did not move when the supplier fell behind

An established UK supermarket chain’s private-label team came to us before Black Friday after its previous supplier was delayed. The requirement was 15,000 seasonal scratchers. The deadline included approved color, material documents, and packaging that store teams could put on display.

Late goods would miss part of a fixed selling window. Our engineering and production work therefore had to resolve the structure, Pantone match, and display pack early enough to release the seasonal order with those requirements intact.

02 / THE CONSTRAINT

The order had to work in the stockroom as well as on the shelf

Separate transport and display packing meant separate material spend and handling work. Store teams had to get the products out of one format and into another before the seasonal range could sell.

The buyer also needed compliant material records and an accurate spot color. A fast production start would not help if documentation or artwork remained unresolved at release.

03 / PRODUCT & PACKAGING ENGINEERING

One pack for the journey and the display

01 / Remove a handling stage

Approve structure and spot color at the start

We completed the structure and Pantone sample in three days, with approval at the first submission. The actual construction carried the print review, so the color decision belonged to the product being manufactured. Reported print color difference held to ΔE ≤1.2 during the project.

A ship-and-display format avoids transferring goods between transport and display packs.

02 / Color follows the substrate

Combine the outer carton with the PDQ/SRP format

We developed a two-in-one transport and display pack. It protected the goods in transit, then served the retail presentation instead of requiring a separate display-packing purchase. The buyer recorded 65% less shelf-preparation time and 19% lower combined packaging procurement cost. The change removed handling between packaging formats as well as material spend.

A print reference on the intended structure resolves more than a screen mockup.

03 / Release with the documents

Clear the specified material documents before release

The order used the specified FSC-compliant paper and soy-based inks. We checked the relevant compliance documents within the program alongside the structure and print approval. The 20-day delivery covered that documentation work and production; it did not describe obtaining a new certification in 20 days.

Material records belong beside the approved product and print files.

04 / SAMPLING, TESTING & RELEASE

First-pass approval kept the recovery order moving

    First-pass inspection.

The three-day structural and color sample passed at the first submission. Peak-season delivery of all 15,000 units followed in 20 days, six days ahead of the buyer’s project schedule.

First-pass inspection acceptance reached 99.7%. The reported store-display damage rate was 0.1%. Those results covered different stages: one at production acceptance, the other after the pack had reached the retail setting it was designed to serve.

Release checks

  1. Sign the structure and Pantone sample before release.
  2. Check the specified paper and ink documentation.
  3. Approve transport and PDQ/SRP functions in the same pack.
  4. Record production acceptance and store-display damage separately.

05 / DISPATCH & COMMERCIAL RESULT

The store team noticed the packaging change

The buyer recovered the seasonal program and received a format its store team could use directly for display. Shelf setup time fell by 65%, while combined packaging procurement cost fell by 19%.

Its feedback named the practical details: checked compliance documents, resolved spot color, and a two-in-one pack praised by the people replenishing shelves. The project succeeded at the point where the seasonal goods had to become a store display, not just leave the factory.

“Our previous supplier was late before Black Friday. You got the compliance documents and spot color sorted and delivered in 20 days. The shelf team loved the two-in-one packaging. Very strong execution.”

Planning a similar order?

Can the transport carton become the store display?

Yes, where developed for the product and retailer’s handling requirements. Send the display brief and transit needs together so opening, protection, and shelf presentation can be resolved in one format.

What was approved in three days?

The structure and Pantone color sample passed at the first submission. The order also required checks of the specified FSC-compliant paper documentation and soy-based inks before release.

What should a seasonal recovery inquiry include?

Send the fixed retail date, destination, quantity, product structure, artwork and spot-color reference, required documents, and store-display format. Those determine whether the approval and delivery program is feasible.
