Corrugated board for cat scratchers

Materials

Select the board for the finished product.

Petaful selects corrugated board for cat scratchers, houses, and posts by structure, scratching use, and print needs. The flute, face, and edge finish are confirmed on a physical sample before bulk production.

Start with the shape you want to sell. We can then discuss whether BC, B, or E flute belongs in the load-bearing body, replaceable pad, or printed shell.

Board selection

Three flute roles, one approved build

Use these roles to begin the conversation. The final board combination and density are set for the SKU in sampling.

BC-flute (double wall)

High-density, thicker stack with strong bonding

Typical use Lounges, beds, cat houses & high-use scratch zones

B-flute (single wall)

Medium–high density with straight flute lines

Typical use Flat pads, boards, replaceable cores & modular kits

E-flute (fine surface)

Smooth, flat surface for crisp print

Typical use Seasonal prints, graphic pads & laminated outer faces

A fine printed face can be paired with a denser core. Specify litter trays and toys for each design.

Sample review

What to confirm before bulk cutting

A signed sample is the reference for the product your buyer will receive.

  1. Start with the structure

A lounge or house needs a different board build from a flat pad. Review the intended load, edges, and any replaceable core on the same structure sample.

  2. Review the printed face

If retail artwork needs a fine surface, approve the printed face together with the scratching core. The combined sample confirms print quality and product strength.

  3. Check the board against the sample

Compare board strength, bonding, flatness, and edge finish with the approved sample before bulk cutting. Toys and litter trays are specified for their own design.

Questions about board and sourcing

Use the sample to confirm the board build. These answers cover the choices buyers most often need to specify.

Which flute should I ask for?

Start with the product shape and how it will be used. BC is a common choice for lounges and houses, B for flat pads and refill cores, and E for a finer printed face. We confirm the build in the sample; compare the flute table.

What glue holds the corrugated board?

We review the adhesive used for the proposed build during sampling. Tell us any material or market requirements in the brief so the agreed board and adhesive can be recorded with the approved sample.

Is every piece the same density?

No. Board construction is selected for the individual product and confirmed in the structure sample. A printed face and a scratch core may need different properties; send both requirements in the brief.

Can the board be FSC-certified?

Yes, when the brief asks for chain of custody. Petaful calls a SKU FSC only when that board is in the order. Open the scan from certificates.

What is BC flute used for?

BC flute is the usual start for lounges, houses, and scratch zones that take heavy use. Confirm it on the sample before print. B and E sit beside it on materials.

What is B flute used for?

B flute is often used for flat scratch pads, refill cores, and modular parts. The sample confirms the thickness and fit for your design before bulk production. Compare it with BC and E on the materials page.

What is E flute used for?

E flute offers a finer face for printed artwork. If the product also needs a substantial scratching core, we review the face and core together in the sample. See the board choices.

Are litter boxes and toys locked to one flute?

No. We select the flute for a litter box or toy from its structure and intended use, then confirm it in the sample. Send the shape, target market, and pack requirements in the brief.
